On November 3, on the 2020 Chinese Enterprises Overseas Image Summit Forum guided by Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, SASAC of the State Council and All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and sponsored by China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, the responsibility fulfillment case of China Longyuan South Africa Company (Longyuan SA) named One KWh Green Electricity Lights up the Rainbow was awarded as the outstanding case of "Overseas Social Responsibility" for overseas image building of the Chinese enterprises in 2020.
The Longyuan South Africa De Aar Wind Power Project is the first wind power project integrating investment, construction and operation among Chinese state-owned enterpises in Africa,, and has driven the domestic equipment, technologies and services to "Go Abroad" successfully, and it is also the largest wind power project so far that has been put into operation in South Africa and was hailed as a "Model of BRICS' Energy Cooperation" by the media of China and South Africa. The project can supply South Africa with stable clean electricity of about 760 million kWh per year, which is equivalent to saving 215,800 tons of standard coal and reducing the emission of carbon dioxide of 619,900 tons. Also, it can meet the demands of 300,000 local households for electricity, and optimize the local energy structure effectively and promotes the clean and low-carbon development.
Meanwhile, the Longyuan SA has been implementing the concept of innovation, coordination, green, openness and sharing unswervingly, and has made due contributions to local education and health, equal employment, social development and environmental protection, etc. As of June 30, 2020, the Company has invested about Rand 39 million in social welfare activities. The Company has insisted on localized employment, and created more than 700 job opportunities during the construction period, and provided more than 100 long-term positions each year during the operation period, thus promoting the employment and income increase of the local residents, especially the poor African people. For the "Student Aid · Dream Building · Talent Cultivation" activity developed, the Company allocates Rand 4 million to subsidize 40 outstanding local African college students; also, the Company funded and ran four early education centers in local communities, to which more than 320 local children needing help were admitted. The Company has targeted special group of people needing special care, and donated funds to build two nursing homes. Each year, the Company has more than Rand 1 million expense budget, and sponsored the local residents to register a non-profit organization in De Aar, Northern Cape Province to help the disabled people in local communities. During the epidemic, the Company worked together with the government of South Africa, hospitals and communities, went all out to respond to challenges jointly, and made joint efforts to strengthen the protection against the epidemic in South Africa. Currently, the Company has donated more than Rand 4 million in total to the local governments and communities, which was highly praised by Dr Zamani Saul Premier of the Northern Cape Province and the Chinese Consulate General in Cape Town.
